Thanks, I get no Non-PDF Special and acroread is ok, but still no
matter what I typeset all the noteheads are missing. Here is first

Second pass is the same. All I see are barlines and notestaffs without
note heads. In latex output I see only overfull and underfull boxes
while /output active and hyperref warnings. Are the hyperref warnings
the problem?

I just discovered that the dvi is typeset perfectly but cannot be
converted to ps or pdf. When I did dvips musixdoc.ps -o and gv
musixdoc.ps I got a document without notes. Likewise ps2pdf musixdoc.ps
and acroread musixdoc.pdf is noteless. Just doing pdflatex musixdoc.tex
and acroread musixdoc.pdf generates a document with round blobs of ink
instead of notes. So the real problem appears to be dvi to ps and dvi
to pdf conversion of musixtex output since musixdoc.dvi is ok.
