Many thanks to both Bob and Dirk for answers that work. Syntax for ps2pdf is
certainly simpler. I found both a ps2pdf.bat and ps2pdf.exe in my miktex bin
folder. Both seem to work. I wonder which one gets executed if I just type
"ps2pdf"?
