Dieter, I have a book “Beyond MIDI: The Handbook of Musical Codes” (MIT
Press, 1997) that was a gift from Werner Icking, that I have often referred
to. (It also has a section about MusiXTeX that was contributed by Werner).
But a little googling should get all the info you need. I didn’t do anything
especially tricky with the MIDI. The really tricky part was the bookkeeping
and coding to get FORTRAN to make the binary file.

Don, you are right. For proof reading the present capability is perfect.
Could you tell me a source, where I can learn more about the Midi-Format?

Dieter

Yes, it would be very difficult. Doing just one tie alone was difficult,
because several separate “notes” in the input stream map into only one midi
event. If anyone else cares to dig into the FORTRAN source code, be my
guest!

But please keep in mind that the midi capability was only intended to be for
“proof-listening,” not for making publication quality sound files.

Hi Don,

yes, I am using windoze. And yes Olivier was right. At first I was missing
the last empty line, and in this case the Vb2 was not processed.

May I put a completely different question? Would it be very difficult to
make the midi generator of PMX aware of multiple ties within a chord?

Thanks to everybody!

Dieter

Sorry, guys, I must be in a parallel universe, because my setup definitely
does NOT require an empty line at the end of the PMX input file to make the
second volta appear. When you end a piece with a volta open, as Olivier did
in his original example, PMX is supposed to automagically supply a Vb,
although I notice that I forgot to mention this in the manual :-(

I have no idea why Dieter didn’t get the second volta. Could it have to do
with system-dependent line-ending and file-ending hidden characters? But I
think Dieter is using Windoze as am I. Dieter, please try the attached file
and report back. Anyone else care to comment?

Hi Olivier,

I am sorry for this beginner's mistake.

Thanks again and regards

Hi Dieter,

Don't forget to add an empty line at the end of the pmx file.
