Well, Dieter still hasn’t told me what happens when he compiles nobl.pmx,
but he did send me his file without the final blank line. When I compile it,
not only is the final volta missing, but the entire last bar is missing.
I’ve seen this before when the PMX file ended with an incomplete input
block; it just ignores the whole block. The trusty DOS debug function tells
me that the closing character in Dieter’s file is 06 (hex), and when I view
it in WinVi32, there a funny double-headed arrow after the last “/”, same as
I’ve seen many times at the ends of lines in *nix-created text files. On
the other hand, nobl.pmx, created with WinVi32, ends with the expected 0D 0A
(CR-LF). This is obviously a function of the text editor used to create the
PMX file. However, until now I’ve never run into this for files created in
DOS or Windoze, only MACs or *nix.

At the moment, I don’t plan to make any changes in PMX to deal with this.

Dieter, for this issue that shouldn’t matter. When I process nobl.pmx with
PMX 2521 I get the second volta. You still didn’t say what happens when you
compile nobl.pmx.

Hi Don,

I am still using Version 2.521 of PMX. Maybe I should upgrade.

Sorry, guys, I must be in a parallel universe, because my setup definitely
does NOT require an empty line at the end of the PMX input file to make the
second volta appear. When you end a piece with a volta open, as Olivier did
in his original example, PMX is supposed to automagically supply a Vb,
although I notice that I forgot to mention this in the manual :-(

I have no idea why Dieter didn’t get the second volta. Could it have to do
with system-dependent line-ending and file-ending hidden characters? But I
think Dieter is using Windoze as am I. Dieter, please try the attached file
and report back. Anyone else care to comment?

Hi Olivier,

I am sorry for this beginner's mistake.

Thanks again and regards

Hi Dieter,

Don't forget to add an empty line at the end of the pmx file.
