Here's my guess. Recently, at Robin's request, I divided the musixtex
package at CTAN into musixtex and musixtex-fonts. I think MiKTeX
has done the same. Is it possible you installed musixtex but not
musixtex-fonts and don't have automatic installation of missing packages
enabled?

I think that scenario would explain the messages you got.
