Dear Bob,Indeed, I did *not* install musixtex-fonts ; but MikTeX's settings are 
such that missing packages are supposed to be installed "on-the-fly".I don't 
know why it lasted such a long time before it worked... but it finally worked. 
Does it go along with your guess ?Xavier
