For my part, I agree with Francisco. The way I would understand the use is 
following :
 - the real pitch is indicated to PMX ;
 - the use of the "normal" trebble clef would imply that all would be written 
"low" in the score ;
 - the use of this "low oct trebble clef" makes the notes appear "in the 
middle" of the score.

That way, it remains coherent with any future change (for exemple the use of a 
F-Clef).

... but I'm not sure I've got why it would matter with singers.
