When googling 'umlaut qwerty' :
a)
1. turn num Lock on
2. press the Alt-key and the following digits on the numbers pad to the
right:
132 = ä
148 = ö
129 = ü
225 = ß (now defunct)
142 = Ä
153 = Ö
154 = Ü
Add Shift for upper case umlauted characters.
b)
AltGR + s = scharfes S
AltGR + p = o umlaut
AltGR + y = u umlaut
AltGR + q = a umlaut
Add Shift for upper case umlauted characters.
Or else:
c)
If it is possible to check if a '\' precedes the '"' then perhaps te problem
can be solved
d) Use 2 symbols for in line lyrics : choose between ' " ' or " ' ".
the '....\"o...' should be no more a problem
Add Shift for upper case umlauted characters.

I have used a lot of times {\"o} without problem in MTX code, that PMX
recognizes well. As an example, here is the text of Mozart's Lied I've
printed (you'll find at

As I tried to explain, \"o does work in my TeX system. But the new lyrics
string capability in PMX uses the quote marks for a different purpose, and
as it stands now, gets confused if you use \"o inside a lyrics string "...".
I may decide to go to the effort of unconfusing pmx by having it check the
previous character whenever it encounters " after the start of a lyrics
string. But first I'll have to refresh my memory about whether I can use
inline TeX at all inside a lyrics string; I'm at work right now without
access to my main PMX setup. I see that as one option for the future;
another which won't require any reprogramming is to use David and Mau's
suggestion for typing Alt+0246 to get the umlaut o, together with Andre's
suggestion for how to get TeX to recognize it.
