Is there a reasonably simple way to make the TOC panel on the left
resizable with the mouse? I've been trying and failing... If it's
complicated, I will settle for a fixed size.

Just tried again using a fresh manual install of Texlive, it
builds just fine! So there is some incompatibility with the
older version that ships with Mint 22.
