Charles, Thanks for stepping up to help. Here is the official job description:
"He will coordinate with Schreiner University staff to assure that wireless on-campus Internet services are available, as well as computer stations with Internet access for participants that do not possess portable computers, and that any requirements for use of those facilities are published in advanced through the Congress website and/or Program." Specifically, what is needed is: 1) Work with SU in the near future and determine how WIFI and their banks of computers will be available to ICS participants. If it will be anything that needs advance preparation or notification for the participants, then we need those details written up for the website and Program. 2) You'll need to arrive a day or two before the ICS begins to work with SU to make sure their bank of computers for ICS access are set up and easily usable by participants. You'll also need to check WIFI access around the campus and test whatever access system they set up (password, etc.) to make sure it works. 3) During the ICS, you'll check WIFI and the computer stations first thing in the morning to make sure everything is on and working, and then again at the end of the day to shut things down at the computer stations and check for any possible problems. 4) Be available during the ICS as the point of contact in case there is a problem. I won't expect you to solve any problems, unless SU authorizes you to work on the computers or WIFI. The point of contact is mostly someone who understands computers well enough to relay/explain information on computer problems either from the ICS to SU and vice versa, and to notify people when the problem is solved. If all goes well, you won't have to do anything on this count. If this still sounds like something you can and want to do, send me your address, phone number(s), and any other contact information you care to share. It won't be published but distributed to the ICS Organizing Committee so we will all know how to reach each other. As part of the OC you'll get occasional group updates, specific messages from me reminding you of upcoming deadlines, and messages to the general ICS e-list. Everyone on the OC works as a volunteer and doesn't get any price discount on registration.
