I am thinking about getting one, but thought I'd wait until the intial hype
had burned out (and my current cell contract expires). I might buy one
through Apple's web store, but there's a 2-3 week delivery time.

But I'd rather hold one in my hand before making a commitment.

What I'm wondering is how much abuse the thing can take without getting all
uglied up. Can it be treated like a regular cell phone you just stuff in
your pocket, or is something you should treat with more care?

Right now I have a Samsung A900. It's all scratched up (has "character"),
since I shove it in my pocket, but it's a flip-phone, so the main screen is
protected. I don't care for my current provider (Sprint), but the cell
phone itself is small, slim, and can take good deal of abuse.

I'd like an iPhone, but I'm just not sure I'd take proper care of it.
