Charles, here's you chance to help out some NM cavers. I think many of them are on Texas Cavers, so yet another possibility is just to invite them to join the Texans (some of which subscribe to the NM list as well).

Greetings,
I appreciate everyone subscribing to this list and hope that it
has served everyone well, as all things go and at some point must end,
so effective
9-1-07 this mailing list will be shut down unless some changes happen.
There are numerous reasons for this. Basically the list runs
itself and is not that much of a maintenance nightmare. There are
times when I have to manually delete hundreds of SPAM emails and there
has been a significant increase in SPAM in the past few months. So far
the filters have managed to keep this off the list. Increased
bandwidth, maintenance, & server costs have all been considered. Also
I have been saddled with a huge project at my work place that will
take even more of my time.
I maintain this list as well as other lists and my own server
through a 3rd party hosting company and have seen a 30% increase in
the yearly fees in the last year. While I always continue to search
for the best bang for my buck, moving from one hosting company to
another is always a hassle.
If someone else wants to pick up the mailing list and run with it
so to speak, then I will cooperate and help in any way possible,
including a transfer of names and email addresses to a mutually chosen
person who will fill the resulting gap. This is why I wanted to give
plenty of advance notice so that it doesn't just go away one day.
I understand the need for information and would obviously being a
caver who caves in New Mexico and interested in caves would subscribe
to the new list.
I would also like to personally thank Mark Minton who has served
as list moderator in the past. Also a special thanks to the cavers of
New Mexico and others who subscribe to this list and have been
responsible adults, thus making moderation very easy. That says a
whole lot....

While I would consider keeping the list going as I know all of
you hate changes as much as I do. A couple of things would have to
happen. I would need at least 2 list moderators to take complete
control of the list.
I hate to ask for funds and will not solicit for them. As always
donations are accepted and appreciated. Keep in mind that the list is
an added feature of my hosting service. Also when accepting funds it
places me in an awkward position of providing an expected service, for
this reason they must be represented as donations.
Again thanks to all of you,
Bill Bentley
