Howdy Bill! If no one else offers to take over, I'll offer my asssistance. I have two conditions though: I won't moderate, I'll operate it as I do cavetex, the other is that I won't pay for the transfer of the domain, a group or individual will have to donate the proceeds to transfer, probably $30 or so and that will get a couple of years added to the domain registration. If someone else offers to take over, then no worries.
I'll help if I can and its needed. I think many of them are on Texas Cavers, so yet another possibility is just to invite them to join the Texans (some of which subscribe to the NM list as well). - Pete ---------- Forwarded message ---------- From: [email protected] To: [email protected] List-Post: [email protected] Date: Mon, 02 Jul 2007 11:59:54 -0400 Subject: nmcaver Digest, Vol 34, Issue 1 Send nmcaver mailing list submissions to [email protected] To subscribe or unsubscribe via the World Wide Web, visit http://mail.caver.net/mailman/listinfo/nmcaver_caver.net or, via email, send a message with subject or body 'help' to [email protected] You can reach the person managing the list at [email protected] When replying, please edit your Subject line so it is more specific than "Re: Contents of nmcaver digest..." ATTENTION NM MAILING LIST USERS (Admin message) ([email protected]) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Message: 1 List-Post: [email protected] Date: Mon, 02 Jul 2007 11:01:17 -0400 From: [email protected] Subject: [Nmcaver] ATTENTION NM MAILING LIST USERS (Admin message) To: [email protected] Cc: [email protected] Message-ID: <[email protected]> Content-Type: text/plain; charset=ISO-8859-1; DelSp="Yes"; format="flowed" Greetings, I appreciate everyone subscribing to this list and hope that it has served everyone well, as all things go and at some point must end, so effective 9-1-07 this mailing list will be shut down unless some changes happen. There are numerous reasons for this. Basically the list runs itself and is not that much of a maintenance nightmare. There are times when I have to manually delete hundreds of SPAM emails and there has been a significant increase in SPAM in the past few months. So far the filters have managed to keep this off the list. Increased bandwidth, maintenance, & server costs have all been considered. Also I have been saddled with a huge project at my work place that will take even more of my time. I maintain this list as well as other lists and my own server through a 3rd party hosting company and have seen a 30% increase in the yearly fees in the last year. While I always continue to search for the best bang for my buck, moving from one hosting company to another is always a hassle. If someone else wants to pick up the mailing list and run with it so to speak, then I will cooperate and help in any way possible, including a transfer of names and email addresses to a mutually chosen person who will fill the resulting gap. This is why I wanted to give plenty of advance notice so that it doesn't just go away one day. I understand the need for information and would obviously being a caver who caves in New Mexico and interested in caves would subscribe to the new list. I would also like to personally thank Mark Minton who has served as list moderator in the past. Also a special thanks to the cavers of New Mexico and others who subscribe to this list and have been responsible adults, thus making moderation very easy. That says a whole lot.... While I would consider keeping the list going as I know all of you hate changes as much as I do. A couple of things would have to happen. I would need at least 2 list moderators to take complete control of the list. I hate to ask for funds and will not solicit for them. As always donations are accepted and appreciated. Keep in mind that the list is an added feature of my hosting service. Also when accepting funds it places me in an awkward position of providing an expected service, for this reason they must be represented as donations. Again thanks to all of you, Bill Bentley ------------------------------ _______________________________________________ nmcaver mailing list [email protected] http://mail.caver.net/mailman/listinfo/nmcaver_caver.net End of nmcaver Digest, Vol 34, Issue 1 **************************************
