I imagine most of you no longer carry a large flashlight in your cave-pack, unless there is a specific need for one.
But it still seems like a good idea to me to carry a tiny flashlight, or maglight or whatever term you use for a light that only uses 1 or 2 AA or AAA size batteries. I do have, or once had several small single AAA LED lights. The best thing about this light is the rugged clip on it. Back when I was doing vertical caving 20 years ago, ( or more ), I would have loved to have been able to clip something like this to my chest harness holding my Mitchell-style chest-roller. It is as long as a cigarette, but much thicker, and built very rugged. It only has one light setting though. You would use such a light in an emergency, or when you really need to conserve your light while sitting around in a cave, or for looking at a map, etc. You could easily mount 2 or 3 of these to a helmet, for caves that are small and involve some crawling. A larger cave, you would most likely want to mount a larger light on the side of your helmet. This light is only $ 14.94 at Walmart, and readily available. The package claims that it will survive a 2 meter drop. Wrap it in duct-tape, and it might survive more. It has a momentary switch which means it could accidentally turn on if you put it in a container stuffed full of stuff. It has a nice pattern of light. I do not see if it is water-proof or even water-resistant, but it looks rugged. The switch has a sturdy click to it also. I think this light is slightly too big to make a good key-chain light, unless you just want a big heavy keychain, and are out at night a lot with your keys in hand. Plus it does not have a hole for that. Meaning, there are better key-chain lights, but they may not be as rugged or put out 50 lumens for 2 hours. For those of you following all my personal drama, I have been in a motel about 90 days now. I now have a weekly rate of only $ 280 a week, and that includes tax, 7 days of bagel and juice and waffle for breakfast, daily cleaning service, parking at my door, quiet place, free of bugs, clean walk-in shower with lots of hot water, within 20 miles of my deliveries, nearby good restaurants within a short 100 to 200 meter walk from my bed, some security. Number one complaint is water-pressure could be a little better, but most people would be fine with it. I have more work than I could possibly ever do, but I am getting ripped off often by shyster attorneys. 2 of the crooks owe me now together $ 1,400 and getting paid, is starting to look dismal. Buccee's finally straightened out the drama with the debit-card. Apparently, doing that on a Saturday night is part of the problem. It just caught me off guard. My kid is taking final exams this week for the six-grade. She has not seemed to have an physical issues from the emergency she had back in early January, but she is still very worried about it, as am I as we never found out what the issue was. EMS was happy to send us a $ 1,200 paramedic bill though. My estranged-wife apparently has refinanced the house at 4.68 %, and while that does me little good, I am hopeful my daughter will enjoy that for many years to come after I am long gone. My Sequoia now has 188,000 plus miles and I still owe $ 8,990. It has numerous issues though that will cost $ 2,000 plus to fix. It would not make it out of town, if I had to go somewhere. It certainly will not make it to Austin or Rio Rancho. It is 11 p.m. and I am now on my way to work and plan to drive it 100 miles in what may be 3rd gear.
