It is my opinion that the major news media has been at least a day or 2
behind on the news of the
lava events going on near Kilauea. Also, they are so vague in their
post, often using
3rd party stories, and old footage, and they water-down the stories to
appeal to the I.Q. of their
audience. ( Like warning people not to travel to the Hawaiian islands )

There are however some YouTubers that are posting very interesting things,
and
doing so several times a day.

One of the residents near the active fissures at the rift, ( whose name is
Scott ) has
made dozens of interesting quick videos about what he sees from ground
level.

He walks up to the lava edge after it cools, and pokes it and steps on it
and takes close up pictures
of the needles ( or hair ) and the bamboo holes in the lava, he refers to
as "tree molds."

Here is an example:

He has been doing this for about 3 weeks.

There are other interesting videos relating to plugging eleven wells at a
geothermal plant that is now just about 300 meters from the most active
of the fissures ( fortunately slightly uphill and away from the rift )

Watching Scott's videos has been a pleasant distraction from all the toxic
news, tragic news,
and my employment predicament. I am so fed up with the news, and have
just tuned it
out. YouTube seems to be one of the better aspects to the internet.
However, I think
YouTube is getting worse - not better.

This email sent from a Linux computer with the Linux kernel 4.16.11, which
just came
out a few hours ago. Today was an exciting day in LinuxLand. A new
version of
the LXQt desktop environment was released. In a few months, at least a
dozen distros
will offer that new version in their options, most notable of which should
be Lubuntu, and if
not, then I would say to go with SparkyLinux, as they should have the new
version
within a few days.

There is about a 0.00001% chance I am going to the NSS Convention this
year. That is
a bummer. Even if it were closer like Huntsville or Albuquerque, it
would still be around
2 % chance. I am now learning how hard it is to be the father of a
teenager girl. Is it
really supposed to be this hard ??
