Logan, I think you can get desert boots which are updated versions of Jungle boots (I think) Also when you have that carbide trip, if someone is carrying the spent ( but still slightly off gassing ) carbide in a ammo box demonstrate the proper way to open the box. Looking into it with your flame only inches away when you open it and release the accumulated gas.
One of the fun things to do with carbide was when you were going in a muddy water cave ( think entrance part of Honey Creek ) some passage where leaves and sticks that got washed in were covered with mud so that methane was accumulating in the mud. as you wade thru the water you release big bubbles of methane from the mud. Lighting them with your lamp was fun. If you did it on purpose. If you were crawling or had your face down by or in, the water, it was even more exciting. Try doing that with your fancy LED light From: "Logan McNatt" <lmcn...@austin.rr.com> To: "texascavers" <texascavers@texascavers.com> Cc: "Bill Steele" <speleoste...@aol.com> Sent: Wednesday, January 23, 2019 2:44:06 PM Subject: Re: [Texascavers] Waterproof boxes Nancy, you will remember what we used before the availablity of sturdy waterproof boxes and dry bag--the military surplus metal ammo boxes. Bill, if you ever lead another carbide trip, consider having people share the joys of carrying a heavy metal ammo box. The auditory experience of loud banging will go well with the olfactory experience of carbide, and add authenticity to the trip. Maybe a cheap ill-fitting fiberglass construction helmet. I guess Vietnam combat boots are no longer available. :-( Lowgun On 1/23/2019 8:11 AM, Nancy wrote: What is recommended for small waterproof box for things like cameras ?
