This is a response to John's question.

My very fuzzy memory remembers alcoves or small ledges near the top 100
foot of the drop where there were faint remnants of rotten lumber and areas
that looked like digging and mining had taken place a long time ago.

All that mining, was likely to provide construction material for runways at
clandestine air-strips used by AFQ ( AeroForzo de Quetzalcoatl ), in
alleged dog-fights with the evil Spaniards over Coahiila ( but in reality
used only by "El Q," [ as his followers called him ]  to smuggle crack into
the State of Alaska.
