I’ve just built with the 10.5 SDK and scrolling still works fine
(using -deviceDeltaY). Does this continue to happen for you when
built with the 10.4 SDK?
Also, this sounds very much like an exception is occurring, so
please check Console.app and see if there are any errors displayed.
If I compile it by using SDK 10.4 (on Tiger 10.4.11 G5 ppc) I got
that error in the Console:
2008-04-07 08:31:32.979 TextMate[11621] *** Assertion failure in -

selector 'watchUserEvents'
If I compile the same source code with deviceDeltaY using SDK 10.4 on
a Leopard OS it works!
I only can image that Leopard can handle deviceDeltaY even it is not
an official method on Tiger (?)
Cheers,

PS I do not know if this could be an issue, but I connected on my
Tiger ppc Mac a Logitech mouse, whereas I'm using a mighty mouse on my
Leopard Mac.
