Sri Maha Periyava was interacting with devotees. Even as He was speaking with devotees, Periyava suddenly stopped talking. He got up abruptly. “I alone will go out and come. None of you need to come with me" He said and walked towards the entrance. Everyone was stunned. They had fears deep inside themselves". Periyava was going outside all alone. They were all worried. Only after Periyava returned inside, everyone breathed a sigh of relief. However, they were all eager to know where Periyava had gone. “All of you were worried as to where I went, is it not?” A murderer was coming to see me. If he came inside the Matham, mahapaavam (big sin) would also come along with him. But he came towards me with good intentions only. He came to me with the hope that I would remove his distress. It was my duty to offer words of consolation to him. He should not be allowed inside the Matham. He had to be consoled at the same time. So, I myself went out to speak with him. I went out and spoke to him in private without causing embarrassment to him and spoke compassionately to him. It is said that if a devotee takes one step towards God, God will take ten steps towards the devotee. But if a sinner repents and tries to reform himself and takes one step in the direction of Sri Maha Periyava, then Periyava not only takes a hundred steps towards that devotee but also cleanses him with his boundless grace. Abundant grace towards His devotees!
