Experiences with Maha Periyava: Malevolent forces conquered

“I am not a magician. I do not know anything about these matters. It is of
no use talking to me about your difficulties”.

When Jayaraman heard these words, his disappointment reached its peak. He
had been narrating his difficulties for ten minutes now with tears
streaming down his face. Was all that a wasted effort? The whole family had
come with the resolve that they would not return until they received Sri
Maha Periyava’s Grace. Was their suffering a small matter anyway? If it had
been harassment was from this or that person, one could give a complaint to
the police. But it was havoc was caused by malevolent forces. So they had
come to the one who saved those that took refuge in Him. But God seemed to
have let them down.

“I am not a magician”, He said.

>From nowhere, bunches of hair fell into their house. So too human waste.
Many bad odours pervaded the house. Besides, like a cyclone in a desert,
hot winds blew sheets of sand into the house. When would these troubles
come to an end? The veritable incarnation of the divine said, “It is of no
use talking to me”.

“We are not going back. We will take refuge in Sri Maha Periyava’s
presence. We cannot go back and live in that house”.

Periyava was in kashta mouna for the next three days, no one knew why.
Would his silence deter Jayarman’s resolve and send him back? Or was he
immersed in mantra japa to relieve the family from the clutches of
malevolent forces. The fourth day, Sri Maha Periyava came to the river for
His bath. Jayaraman and his family were there. They fell down full length
at Periyava’s feet.

“We have no other refuge but Periyava. We will not leave until we get an
assurance from Periyava”.

Sri Charanal was grace personified. He then gave an iron nail to Jayaraman.
“This should be nailed on the wall of your house. Only one person should go
in to do it. Courage is required. The person who does this should not be
frightened even if he hears dreadful noises”.

Jayaraman prostrated to Periyava a thousand times and went home. He was
frightened to go in. He found a suitable person for the job and sent him
with the nail and a hammer. As soon as the man began to drive the nail into
the wall, the chairs and tables at home began to topple and roll about.
Deafening noises filled the atmosphere. The tiles on the roof of the house
began to fly. The utensils in the kitchen fell down and rolled all over the
floor. The havoc continued for ten minutes. A coconut tree in the yard
behind the house fell down, suddenly uprooted. Then the noises subsided and
came to an end at last.

Jayaraman’s wife swept the house, swabbed the floor with cow-dung and
decorated it with kolam. She lit a lamp in the niche where the family deity
was kept. She then prepared a meal, offered it and waved lighted camphor to
the deity. From that day onwards they began to live in that house. They had
no trouble whatsoever.

The next week Jayaraman came to Sri Maha Periyava, again with his family
and said “We are now safe and happy”. The Lord of Grace lifted His hand and
blessed the family.
