Q1           Whilereceiving a filling for tooth decay, I could smell something
really horrible, like bad unbrushed breath. Was that the smell of the dentist
drilling at mytooth decay? I brushed and used mouthwash prior to going and
scrubbed mytongue.

A1           Ronald LeachRetired dentist with 42 years ofexperience.June 8

When a tooth is prepared for a filling, small amounts oftooth structure are
caught in the aerosol. Most of this material is evacuatedaway but some
smallamount might reach your nose. This smell will be there during the
preparation.

In addition, putrefied food debris might be caught betweenthe teeth or in the
cavity. This will have a bad smell, as you describe, butthe duration is short.

Your brushing will have no effect on either source. Thetrapped food debris is
probably the reason for decay.

My note- Two yearsback when root canal  drilling done on my teeth, unbearable
smellcame. After filling I enquired doctor – I just brushed and came ensuring
nosmell from mouth. He laughed ,you can only clean outside and not inside. The
smell came from inside. Itoccurs for some teeth.

The designers claim it will increase fuel efficiency by 70%and decrease carbon
footprint by 80% per passenger-km.

The fuel will be shifted from wing storage to inside thefuselage. The smooth

molded composite body.

Q4           How do Ido pranayama when there are mosquitoes in the house?

A4           Ajit KurupDaily meditator since 2018Fri

Since chemical mosquito repellents do cause damage to ourlungs it's best to use
natural methods to keep mosquitoes away.

Camphor is effectiveagainst mosquitoes. Light some camphor in a room and close
all the doors and windows for abouttwenty minutes and then open them.

The tulsi plant is a naturalmosquito repellant. Plant one near the window.

Another option is to peel the leaves of lemongrass and rubthe pulp over your
skin

I personally havefound camphor to be very useful for this. Hope these easy
remedies help in clearing theatmosphere and creating the right ambiance for
pranayama. Profile photo forDrishti Khatri

Q5           What isthe most ‘Indian’ thing about you?

A5            Khatri Melophile October 1

I like Indian washrooms rather than western ones.

Why?

Just imagine you are a person like me who don't exercise, don't go to the gym,
does no yoga, nothing.

But at least 15 minutes days you go to the washroom and sitin this position
like situps:

This is a kind of exercise only.

Rather than sitting in the western washroom maybe with thephone if we prefer
using the Indian washroom, we are doing some exercisesimultaneously.

My note- For agedabove 70, western is felt comfotable

head?

A6           Narayani Purushottama2 lovers of Sanathana Dharma  Fri

Of course not! Then what is this?

Lord Shiva is dancing on fire. If you do it you will be dead.So if Bhasmasura
touched Shiva, hewon’t die.

It was just a play of Shiva so that Sri Vishnu will come as ayoung boy and
trick Bhasmasur. Just like how Shiva swallowed poison instead ofVishnu.

Q7           How doesthe fuel pump know when to shut off?

A7           Ace Owner at House Of American Cars (2019–present)September 20

Fuel pumps themselves don't know when to shut off. Once the tip of the nozzle
getssubmerged in gas (as the tank is filling up), gas starts getting sucked up
intothat little tube. Its that vacuum that forms that pulls the air outof the
diaphragm in the nozzle and triggers the automatic shutoff.

Tardigrades aren’t aspecies, they’re an entire phylum, on the same level as
“vertebrate” or “mollusc”. We’re just not as awareof them, or their variety,
because they’re very small. The species which hasbeen found in amber is long
extinct, so far as we know.

Q10         Americanscall car fuel ‘gas’ even though it’s a liquid. So what do
they call gas that isactually gas? Does this ever lead to confusion at times?

A10          Proescher low Studied at University of Maryland Global Campus
September 24

It’s actually called“gasoline” which is liquid. “Gas” is merely a shortened
form of the longerword. It’s a bitlike Brits using the word “petrol” for
petroleum. It’s a liquid, but totallyunsuitable as a fuel until it’s further
refined. This is petroleum, no one isputting it in their automobile’s fuel
tank.

Q12         Whetherthe water carried by 50-100 yers old pipes are healthy?

A12         2 ANSWERS -I can tell you frompersonal experience that a lot of
those old pipes are not nearly as bad as youimagine. It doesdepend somewhat on
factors such as the pipe material and the quality of thewater being conveyed.
Studies have shown that even asbestos cement pipe doesn'ttypically present a
health issue. To compensate for regrowth of bacteria in thepipelines, agencies
maintain a chlorine residual in the water to kill off thenasty things, and the
standards for measuring whether a high enough chlorineresidual is being
maintained relies on measurements at the tap (or terminalfire hydrants). By the
way, following repair of a pipeline break, the pipe isdosed with very high
levels of chlorine until measurements prove that the pipeis clean; only then
can the pipe be placed back into service. Want to get evenmore technical? Ask
me about water main rehabilitation by pre-chlorinatedpipebursting.

2ND ANSWER RubenAlaniz Answered 8h ago

Because “tap water” is treated with chlorine before it issent out. In the
initial part of the sterilization process an extra amount isintentionally left
over that is called “Residual Chlorine.”

This small amountassures that as the water travels through the pipes to your
home it willcontinue to guard it against recontamination.

That is why some times you smell a scent of chlorine in yoursink when you open
up the valve. Trust me this is a good thing and perfectlyharmless. Icon for Let

Q13         What isyour Fact of the Day 18?

A13          Ng October 3

Did you know? Orangeswere originally green.

The first oranges ever imported from to the West were fromSoutheast Asia and
were tangerine-pomelo hybrids that were green in color.

In fact, oranges grown in warmer parts of the world such asVietnam and Thailand
stay green throughout their lifetime.

My note- In Chennai weget only green orangenow. They are sweet and slightly
sour. Merchants say season has just started-hence the green colour

Q14         How muchwater can be wasted while taking a bath?

A14         2 AnswersJayant Bothra, Content Writer at Writers andAuthors
(2019-present)Answered Sat

According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA),a full bathtub
requires about 70 gallons of water, while taking a five-minuteshower uses 10 to
25 gallons. You might argue that very few people fill the tubto the top, but a
simple calculation shows that either way, baths use morewater.

2nd  answer Subodh Lawand , Fitness Free AnsweredOctober 5

a ten-minute shower only uses 25 gallons of water. A fullbath can use up to 50
gallons of water. Using these numbers, a shower will useless water in most
cases.

Q15         When didthey stop making parachutes out of silk?

A15           Susanna Viljanen Works at Aalto University Updated September 28

In 1941, when the imports of silk from Japan dried out.

The Americans resolved the problem with Polyamide 66 (Nylon),while the Germans
resolved the problem with Polyamide 6 (Perlon). The Britishmade them from a mix
of Ramex cotton and Maranyl.

Nylon is a Du Pont trademark for Polyamide 66. Maranyl isthat of ICI. Perlon is
basically the same molecule, but a structural isomermade by ring-openinhg
polymerization of caprolactam instead of fromhexamethylenediamine and adipic
acid. Profile photo for Bhuvana Rameshwar

Q17         Is NewZealand bigger than London?

A17 Balaji Viswanathan CEO at Invento (2016–present)Updated 8h ago

Yes. I have driven NewZealand end to end in 2011 and same with England and
Wales in 2016.

The drive from Bay of Islands in the northern edge of NewZeland to Invercargill
in the southern tip took us about 2 weeks. Sure, westopped in a lot of places
but even if we did non-stop it would have taken us 2days to do that drive.

Cutting through London with all its confusing roundaboutstook us just about 2
hours in the afternoon. It might take a little more in therush hour, but not
substantially more.2 days vs 2 hours. That is the scale for you.

Bottled water freezesjust like any other water. Be careful while keeping a
bottle in freezer because wateroccupies more space when it freezes. So the
bottle changes shape or may burstif water is full to the brim. Some space
should be left for the water toexpand.
