BEING  A COMPILATION THERE MAY  BE ERRORS

Q1         Isit true that there are no dinosaur remains in the impact layer?

A1          Claire Jordan Degree inbiology and folklore; programmer, shop
owner, secretary on newspaper Mon

Probably. As Quincy says, it’s not material very suitable for formingfossils,
plus it was laid down rapidly. But we have the remains of plants andanimals who
were caught up in the tsunami a few hours later, and they include aluckless
Triceratops.

I would suggest that the fact that there are also few dinosaur fossilsfrom
immediately before the boundary is an artefact, in that the firestormdestroyed
remains which were in the process of fossilisation but not yet
fullymineralised. Something similar happens with memories - I was taught that
it takes about20 minutes for short-term memories to be transferred to long-term
storage,if they’re going to be, and a serious blow to the head can interrupt
thisprocess and cause all memory of the 20 minutes leading up to the blow to
belost.

Q3         Willgenetic studies help human beings facilitate natural selection
of preferredgenes in the near future?

A3          Ken Saladin Formerprofessor of histology (microscopic anatomy)Mar 31

If humans select what genes are going to be passed along moresuccessfully than
others, thenit’s not natural selection. Natural selection is what occurs
without humanintention. What you describe would be what’s been called
artificialselection, even before Darwin.

Q4         CanI eat rice if I have high cholesterol?

A4          Lucia Garcia Worked atHospitals Mon

Eating rice is not a healthychoice if you have high cholesterol.

Although rice is cholesterol-free, but rice is a whopping 70%carbohydrates.
Carbohydrates are one of the three major nutrients, which canprovide heat for
the body. 1 gram of carbohydrates provides 4 calories.

For decades, many healthexperts have recommended that people with high
cholesterol should reduce theirintake of saturated fat.

However, many new studies prove that people with high cholesterol need toreduce
their carbohydrate intake, not saturated fat.

Excess carbohydrates areconverted into glucose in the body and absorbed into
the bloodstream, resultingin high blood sugar, high blood lipids and high
cholesterol.

Clinical studies have proven that a more healthy diet is a low-carb dietrather
than a low-saturated fat diet.

Therefore, people with highcholesterol need to limit the intake of high
carbohydrate foods, such as: rice, wheat, steamed bread, noodles, bread,
biscuits, corn, oats, sweet potatoes, potatoes, bananas, etc.

Q5         Howmuch does it cost to hire a car driver monthly in Chennai?

A5          Ganesh Janakiraman,Randonneur, Recruiter, and avid reader Answered
Dec 20, 2013

It's usually upwards of INR 8000 which is the fixed part. Apart from thatyou
might have to shell out on daily lunch allowance, uniform and other perks(loan
him whenever required, bonus for festivals like Diwali, Pongal, Christmasand
new year and other misc expenses).

Depending upon your affluencethis could cost you anywhere between 10k to 25k

Attrition in chauffeur work force is a big challenge. They tend to quitin about
3 to 6 months.

2ND ANSWER- NarayananHariharan , lives in Chennai,Tamil Nadu, India Answered

For a good full time driver you will have to shell out between INR 10,000to INR
15,000. The range is depending on the driver's experience and yournegotiation
skills :)

I would imagine the very low cost of labor in India has a lot to do withit.

Avoid the stress of driving in high traffic areas (I imagine there are alot in
big Indian cities).    Protect thecar while the car is parked or at least park
it farther away in safeareas…leaving an expensive car in crowded urban areas
may subject it and theowner to crime, theft and vandalism

Status symbol.

In india the cost of a driver would still be a minute cost compared tothe cost
of an imported luxury car. Unlike say the US in which a years salaryfor full
time chauffeur could cost half the cost of a medium luxury car.

My note- My experience with  casual drivers in Bangalore is 400-00 rupees for
three hours. If weengage for a day 1000-00 allowance and 1500-00 rupees driving
charge. In myarea Tambaram inChennai,  it is difficult to get driverson daily
wage. So I engage Taxi which is more convenient.

Q6         Dodoctors actually review a CT scan, or do they just refer to the
report from aradiologist?

A6          Devpriyo Pal Doctor |Radiologist | Educator Sun

Experience 1:

During the end of my second year as a resident, I ran into a Neurologistin our
department who was waiting to meet one of our consultants. When I askedhim if I
could help him, he nodded and whipped out some MRI plates. He stuckthem in a
view box and looked at me expectantly. By then I had learnt how to read MRIs
but I was far awayfrom mastery. I looked at what I thought were either mass
lesions orlarge ugly demyelinating lesions and told him what I was thinking
about.

He smiled at me with a look that said, “You have a long way to go, kiddo”and
then when my Consultant arrived I witnessed him comfortably having adiscussion
about the MRI features of Balo concentric sclerosis, a rare variantof Multiple
Sclerosis. Before leaving, he gave me a pat on my back and told meto read up.

Experience 2:

I had a very angry Physician tell me that they were very disappointedthat I
missed a large lung cancer.

He shoved a CT plate towards me and pointed at the top of the liver withthe
visible lung around it.

Plenty of doctors are experts atinterpreting images related to their practice
while there are plenty of doctorswho do not (and should not!) try to interpret
the images on their own!

Q7         Canyou wash money in the sink?

A7          Gopala Krishnan , formerAssistant General Manager 1996-2004 at
Department of Telecom(1966-2004)Answered just now

I hope the question is about coins and not currency notes. Currency notesare
never washed.

I have washed coins obtained from temple Hundi for removing stains andsticky
oil in a plastic bowl. Water is added to half level, detergent added andcoins
are kept in it for about 2 hours, shaking them every half an hour.Afterwards
they are again washed in good water and dried on a newspaper. Mostcoins would
become neat except corroded or had more wear and tear ones.

Q9         Dowind turbines really kill thousands of birds?

A9          Claire JordanDegree inbiology and folklore; programmer, shop owner,
secretary on newspaper8mo

Yes. However, there’s a fairlyeasy solution - if you paint the tip of one of
the blades black it causes theblades to flash as they rotate, making them
visible from far enough away forbirds to evade them.

It’s harder to make them safe for bats. For reasons I forget, the blades
attract insects, then the insects attract bats, but the sharp change in air
pressure as theblades rotate can cause bats to suffer broken blood vessels in
their tiny lungs. One solution isto put the brakes on and freeze the blades for
a couple of hours either side ofsunset, when bats are most active.
