Q1         What is the main difference betweenelectrical and electronics?

A1          Lokenath Roy, GATE Aspirant Jul 20

At the risk ofoversimplifying this complex subject, I shall attempt to explain
the maindifference between electrical and electronics in the most entertaining
andilluminating manner possible. Buckle up!

You see, electrical and electronics arelike the twin siblings who seem similar
on the surface but have very differentpersonalities and interests as they grow
up.

Electrical is the older, more straight-faced sibling. Itdeals with the big,
bulky components - things like wires, batteries, generators, motors,
transformers and the like. Electrical focuses on generating, distributing and
usingelectrical power on a large scale. It follows the strict laws of
physicsand obeys Ohm's law,Kirchhoff's laws and other such solemn academic
principles.

Electronics,on the other hand, is the mischievous youngersibling with a flair
for the dramatic. It delights intiny, fast-moving components like transistors,
integrated circuits, resistors, capacitors and diodes.

Electronicsmanipulates the movement of electrons within these semiconductor
devices toproduce useful functions. While it respects the basics ofelectrical,
it often bends the rules to achieve its creative goals.

Q2         How do commercial pilots know theweight of passengers, fuel, cargo,
and luggage before taking off?

A2          Rebecca Williams, Experience inAviation17h

The weight and balance of an aircraft are determined byseveral factors, such as
the basic empty weight of the aircraft, the weight ofthe fuel, the weight of
the passengers and their carry-on items, the weight ofthe checked baggage and
cargo, and the distribution of these weights within theaircraft.

The weight and balance of an aircraft also affect itscenter of gravity (CoG),
which is the point where theaircraft’s mass is evenly balanced. The CoG must be
within certainlimits for the aircraft to fly safely and efficiently.

To calculate theweight and balance of an aircraft before takeoff, pilots rely
on theinformation provided by the operations department of the airline,
whichcollects and processes the data from various sources. For example:

The basic emptyweight of the aircraft is known from periodic weighing and
maintenance records.

The weight of thefuel is known from the fuel gauges and the fuel load requested
by the pilots.

The weight of the passengers and their carry-on items isestimated from
predetermined tables based onstatistical averages or actual weighing. The
tables take into account differenttypes of travel (e.g. regular or charter) and
different seasons (e.g. summer orwinter).

The weight of thechecked baggage and cargo is known from weighing and counting
at the check-incounters and loading areas.

The distribution ofthe weights within the aircraft is known from loading plans
and seatassignments.

The operations department then feeds this informationinto a computer system
that calculates not only the gross weight of theaircraft but also the CoG at
takeoff. Thecomputer system also checks if the weight and balance are within
the limitsspecified by the manufacturer and the regulations. The results are
then sent to the pilots via aprintout or an electronic device.

The pilots thenverify and enter these results into their flight management
system or manualcalculations. They also make any necessary adjustments to
ensure optimalperformance and safety.

Q5         What is the best fruit to eat everyday?

A5          Lindsey and Molly Duncan,Founder/CEO(2021–present)Aug 2

This is an easy question to answer. WATERMELON. Not onlyis watermelon the best
fruit to eat, as are other melons, but watermelon is thebest overall food to
eat. Yes, everyone’s body isdifferent, but generally speaking, nothing can
compare to watermelon. Here’s our partial list as towhy watermelon is the best
fruit/food we can eat.

Watermelon is 90% water…thus the name WATER-melon.The name implies that this
food keeps you hydrated, and this is 100% true. Over20% of how our body is
hydrated, is through what we eat. This is where it getsproblematic. Most people
are eating foods that are only 5–20% water. Every timewe do this, these foods
suck and deplete our already dehydrated bodies. Inbasic terms here’s how it
works: our planet is 70–80% water and our bodies are70–80% water. Our diet
should be the same, 70–80% high water content foods.Watermelon is easily the
king/queen of high-water content foods.

Watermelon contains a very powerful, disease fightingcompound called Lycopene.
Lycopene is what giveswatermelon the bright red color. It has extreme and
powerful antioxidantproperties. Tomatoes are known for their Lycopene content
as well. Watermelonhas more Lycopene than tomatoes! Research suggests that high
levels of Lycopenehave the ability to decrease blood pressure, reduce
inflammation, and may evenreduce the risk of digestive and prostate cancers.
These clinical studies areeasily found on the internet.

Watermelon is low in calories, contains over 12 mgof vitamin C in one cup, and
also contains 170 mg of potassium (the number onemineral for the human heart)
865 IU’s of vitamin A (for healthy eyes), and awhopping 6,890 micrograms of
Lycopene (for disease mitigation).

The American Journal of Hypertension study published in2012, suggests a
positive link between watermelon andheart disease and suggests that watermelon
extract may reduce blood pressure. They give credit to the powerful active
compounds in watermelon L-citrullineand L-arginine. These studies are also very
easy to find online.

Watermelon is believed to strengthen and feed ourimmune system. The essential
vitamins and minerals along with the amino acidL-citrulline is believed by
researchers to have a very beneficial effect on ourimmunity.

Watermelon is great for your skin. Vitamins A, B6and vitamin C in watermelon
help your skin look amazing by keeping it smooth, soft, and supple! The vitamin
C boosts collagen production, and the vitamin Ahelps to repair skins cells
which prevents dry flaky skin.

We could talk forhours about the benefits of watermelon. We make fun of each
other because weeat so much of it!! Watermelon also relieves achy muscles,
improves workouts, helps with weight loss and weight management, and relieves
acids and toxinsfrom the kidneys because it slightly diuretic, and so much more.

For people who havedifficulty digesting food, guess what one of the most easily
digestible foodsis? Again, WATERMELON!

An interesting little tidbit that most people don’tknow, is if you peel away
the outer skin you can slice and pickle the watermelon rind by addingvinegar.
This is incredibly healthy, and it tastes great! Certainlya different take on
the sweetness of watermelon that we are all used to!!

Simply put, watermelon is the best fruit to eat everysingle day. It’s the most
hydrating food on theplanet and last time we checked society is highly
dehydrated!!
