KR Sugar consumption is not a lifelong habit; it came only very late; Originally, people chewed sugarcane raw to extract its sweetness. Indians discovered how to crystallize sugar during the Gupta dynasty, c. 350 AD although literary evidence from Indian treatises such as Arthashastra in the 2nd century AD indicates that refined sugar was already being produced in India. Refined sugar, often derived from sugar cane or sugar beets, undergoes extensive processing that strips away all the naturally occurring minerals and nutrients. What remains is pure sucrose, a simple carbohydrate. This highly processed sugar is often responsible for the sweet cravings and energy spikes followed by crashes that many people experience after consuming it. sugarcane jaggery: Sugarcane jaggery is unrefined, which means it retains many of the natural minerals and vitamins found in sugarcane juice. These include iron, potassium, magnesium, and various Vitamins. Iron is essential for maintaining healthy blood levels, while potassium and magnesium support heart health and help regulate blood pressure. These nutrients are mostly absent in refined sugar. So without refined sugar one can still survive. Q2 North Indian: What was your biggest culture shock when visiting South India? Q4 Why is India's economy poor although it has so many youths? A4 T.M. Gautham, Left Handed & Right Minded Updated 2y Law of diminishing returns is the answer! This is the law of diminishing returns. In short it means that if we just increase one factor of production while keeping the others the same, the output would become less efficient. Our country has a lot of labour, but we do not have the best technology to use the labour to produce stuff. We need to bring technology to our country and get training to use the technology and make quality stuff to get rich. Having the biggest pool of youngsters is not something to boast about unless we bring technology and capital to our country and train them. In forty years they will turn into the biggest pool of senior citizens. KR: How do we consider this answer as at least closer to not even truth, but far away from truth? QUORA ANSWERS NEED NOT BE 100% CORRECT ANSWERS. Compiled and posted by R. Gopala Krishnan, 80, on 26-11-2023. Q1 Is it healthy to avoid sugar completely? A1 Teamedical, Experienced Medical Team Nov 19 It is a common belief that avoiding sugar completely is essential for a healthy lifestyle. While this may be true in some cases, it is important to note that sugar can actually be beneficial in the right amount. The human body needs a small amount of sugar to function properly--about six to nine teaspoons a day. This amount is found in many natural foods, such as fruits and vegetables, so consuming these foods can help you meet your daily sugar needs. However, eating too much sugar can increase health risks, such as weight gain, diabetes, and tooth decay. To reduce your risk of these illnesses, it is important to maintain a healthy balance of sugar in your diet. To do this, it is best to limit added sugars, such as those found in sodas and desserts. Eating whole foods such as fruits, vegetables, and whole grains will provide essential vitamins and minerals while keeping sugar consumption in check. It is also important to pay attention to food labels to make sure you are not eating too much sugar. Many processed foods, such as cereals and snacks, contain added sugars, so it is important to read labels and watch out for hidden sugars. It is essential to find a healthy balance of sugar in your diet. Avoiding sugar completely is not necessarily the best way to maintain a healthy lifestyle. Eating the right amount of sugar, combined with a nutritious diet and regular exercise, is the best way to ensure optimal health. Q2 North Indian: What was your biggest culture shock when visiting South India? A2 Gopal Gupta,Jan 15 December 2009. Me travelling from Lucknow to Chennai (far south) during extreme cold. The train had already entered Tamil Nadu. After two days of journey I reached Chennai Central Railway Station, MAS, and weather was hot - exact opposite of North. Outside the station a whole new culture was bustling in front of my eyes. It was an awesome sight watching a rich, vibrant and culturally significant heritage in front of me first time in my life. Same Indians busy in their everyday lives but in a completely different setting. Hindi got replaced by Tamil, Chhola kulchas by Idli-sambhar and temple architecture with statues of gods and goddesses adorning the structure more outside than inside. “Potheri, which way is Potheri?” - I asked one gentleman. He directed me across the subway to the other side of the road and to board a local train to Tambaram. From there I was to take the bus to Potheri. At Tambaram I got my bus. I entered the bus and found the bus conductor to be a lady! Ladies employed as bus drivers or conductors was something I had never come across in North India. Whereas a common sight across South India. In North India people might not accept women working as bus drivers or bus conductors. South on the contrary has been quite successful in achieving gender equality. Women are at par with men and equal contributors to society. My note- Kerala and Karnataka have a large % of women conductors. I have recently read about and watched a lady driver in private bus in Kannur in whatsapp. Q3 What is the top 1 food rich in complex carbs? A3 Master Nutritional, Certified Nutrition Coach in Nutrition & Nutrition (college major), University of Dayton (Graduated 2002)8h As a Certified Nutrition Coach, I can confidently say that sweet potatoes are considered one of the top foods rich in complex carbohydrates. Complex carbohydrates are essential for providing sustained energy, supporting brain function, and maintaining overall health. Sweet potatoes are a nutrient-dense and versatile food that offers various health benefits. Here's why sweet potatoes are an excellent source of complex carbohydrates: 1. Complex Carbohydrates Content: Sweet potatoes are primarily composed of complex carbohydrates, specifically starch. Starch is a polysaccharide, a complex carbohydrate made up of multiple glucose units linked together. This structure makes it a slow-digesting carbohydrate, providing a steady release of energy over time. 2. Fiber Content: Sweet potatoes are rich in dietary fiber, which is another type of complex carbohydrate. Fiber is crucial for digestive health, as it promotes regular bowel movements, helps maintain a healthy weight, and supports blood sugar control. The fiber in sweet potatoes also contributes to a feeling of fullness, aiding in weight management. 3. Micronutrient Density: Sweet potatoes are packed with essential vitamins and minerals, making them a nutrient-dense choice. They are a great source of vitamin A, vitamin C, potassium, and manganese. These micronutrients play vital roles in immune function, vision, skin health, and overall well-being. 4. Low Glycemic Index: The glycemic index (GI) measures how quickly a food raises blood sugar levels. Sweet potatoes have a relatively low GI, meaning they cause a slower and more gradual increase in blood sugar compared to high-GI foods. This is beneficial for maintaining stable energy levels and supporting long-term health. 5. Versatility in Cooking: Sweet potatoes can be prepared in various ways, such as baking, roasting, boiling, or mashing. This versatility makes it easy to incorporate them into a variety of dishes, from savory to sweet. Including sweet potatoes in your meals can add both flavor and nutritional value. 6. Natural Sweetness: The natural sweetness of sweet potatoes can satisfy sugar cravings in a healthier way. This makes them a suitable choice for those looking to manage their sugar intake while still enjoying a mildly sweet taste. As a Certified Nutrition Coach, I recommend including sweet potatoes in a balanced and diverse diet to ensure an adequate intake of complex carbohydrates, fiber, and essential nutrients. However, it's crucial to consider individual dietary needs and preferences, as well as any specific health conditions, when creating personalized nutrition plans. My note- Probably individual blood sugar conditions, though I like sweet potatoes boiled, it increases my blood sugar level. I have taken blood sugar before and after eating sweet potatoes boiled. So I limit consumption to 2-3 pieces. Q4 Why is India's economy poor although it has so many youth? A4 T.M. Gautham, Left Handed & Right Minded Updated 2y Law of diminishing returns is the answer! There was a Dosa Stall in an office food court. The dosa stall had only one dosa master who could make 60 tasty dosas in an hour. The stall owner saw many customers going to other stalls in the food court because the customers had to wait long for dosas as there was only one chef preparing dosas for so many customers. The owner hired one more dosa master so that 120 dosas can be prepared in a hour. The move worked and they produced 120 dosas per hour which halved the wait time. More customers started visiting the stall due to the low wait time. As the number of customers increased the waiting time increased despite having 2 masters. The owner now hired a third master so that 180 dosas can be prepared in an hour. But the owner noticed that only 150 dosas were prepared in an hour. He wanted to know why only 150 dosas were prepared in a hour with 3 chefs (50 dosas per chef) while they could prepare 120 dosas in an hour with 2 chefs (60 dosas per chef). The dosa masters told that the owner that now there are three masters, the dosa pan is not wide enough for three masters to prepare dosas at a time. They will need to buy one more pan to accommodate the new chef. This is the law of diminishing returns. In short it means that if we just increase one factor of production keeping the others same, the output would become less efficient. The dosa stall owner increased his labour but did not increase the capital (equipment). Our country has a lot of labour, but we do not have the best technology to use the labour to produce stuff. We need to bring technology to our country and get training to use the technology and make quality stuff to get rich. Having the biggest pool of youngsters is not something to boast unless we bring technology and capital to our country and train them. A5 MagEnergy23,Former Nutritionist at Self-Employment10h Green chilies offer several health benefits. They contain capsaicin, which may boost metabolism, aid in weight loss, and have anti-inflammatory properties. They can also help improve digestion, boost immunity due to their high vitamin C content, and even act as a natural pain reliever. However, moderation is key, as excessive consumption may cause irritation in the digestive system for some individuals. My note- I have found eating green chilly skin has effect in reducing blood sugar levels. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "iyer123" group.
