Thank you.

While opinions may and do differ, let me state what I have heard / read /
and listened to - to the following two answers in your Mail.

Q3:
Only two epics are called Ithihasas - Valmiki Ramayana and
Vyasa Bharatha - Mahabhatham.

Itihasa means " This is what happened" meaning they are the recordings of
what had actually happened; hence there may not be exaggerations. Some of
the events or wealth details mentioned therein may not be believable to us
now, just like:

Imagine a situation where we are all wiped out due either to a nuclear
holocaust or some other events; Would you think the generation after that (
which will have to start from scratch) will believe we had T Vs or cars or
planes or other gadgets like cell phones? They may think these recordings,
if available, are exaggerations.

It is just that we may not be aware what existed and what survived and what
was lost. Hence the scenario described in these two Ithihasas may seem far
fetched to us now. Added to that is the Western Propaganda dubbing our
puranas mere imaginations while they describe theirs " Sacred Texts".

But other adaptations like the Kamba Ramayana are given to poetic freedoms
including exaggerations and that's why
They are NOT called Ithihasas.

Sometimes these adaptations may also give wrong pictures - not found in the
Original Ithihasas.

Example Is the popular scene in the Tamizh film Karnan where there is a
scene of Bhanumathi and Karnan playing the game of dice and what happened
thereafter. Bhanumathi is the wife of Duryodana and that scene highlights
the level of trust Duryodana had in his wife and friend.

BUT Cho sir says this was not at all mentioned in the Vyasa Bharatha but
people believe what has been depicted in the films. But it adds spice and
makes an interesting read.

Q 5:

I have heard in many Upanyasams, the latest is the one we heard on 7th Jan
2024 when we attended the Radha Kslyanam at the Sringeri Mutt auditorium in
R A Puram where

the Upanyasakar said

There is NO MENTION at all of Radha in the Baghavatham but Radha was an
imaginary figure - Radha represents Jeevatma and her yearning for Krishna
represents Jeevatma's yearning to merge with the Paramatma that is Krishna.

*CULTURAL QA 01-2024-09*

*All the BELOW QA are from Quora digest to me on 09-01-2024.*

* Quora answers need not be 100% correct answers *

*.Compiled* *and posted by R. Gopala krishnan, on 09-01-2024*

*Q1 Doctors who quit medicine, why? How did you manage it and what
are you doing now?*

*A1 Gopalkrishna Vishwanath,69, and in reasonably good health so
far. Wish me luck for the future.10h*

*I am not a doctor but I know a doctor who quit practicing medicine after
about 10 years.*

*He invested inherited money and set up a shop selling medical supplies,
hospital medical equipment, orthopedic aids, instruments like blood
pressure measuring devices, Oxygen level indicators, water beds, adult
diapers, and stuff like that in addition to the medicines sold in chemist
shops. He supplies to nearby hospitals, nursing homes and also the general
public.*

*He seemed to be doing well when I last met him.*

*Since he himself has been a doctor, he is able to relate well to the
people in hospitals and nursing homes who deal with purchases. He is also
able to discuss competently with the manufacturers of all his medical
equipment and supplies.*

*My note- There are many doctors in political field, cine field etc.
Similarly there are many persons studied law in political, cine, and as
Building companies owner etc.*

*Q2 Why do cabin crews who do turnaround flights bring luggage
despite coming back to their original city at the end of the day?*

*Susan Brown,Former Flight Attendant/ Recruiter Dec 30*

*It's a part of our uniform**. Also, rules and regulations that we have to
follow. Usually, we have heavy manuals in those small carry-on luggage.
However, lately, more and more airlines are going from paper books to
giving their crew work phones. All the manuals and training materials are
on our phones now. No need for large books. Other than training manuals we
have our service shoes in these luggages. Most airlines have two different
kinds of shoes for their crew. One pair of shoes that we wear when we go to
the airport and during boarding. Then we have a 2nd pair of shoes that we
change into when we do our meal service. The 2nd pair is more comfy. When
it's time to land we change to the 1st pair of shoes. Also, a lot of the
crew including myself have extra pairs of shirts and stockings in those
small carry-on luggage. Dealing with food and drink can easily stain our
shirts. And let's not talk about annoying stockings that often rip. We have
our makeup bag in those bags too. We have to bring those small carry-on
luggage. We have a lot that we have to have in those bags, regardless if
it’s a turnaround or not. So there are a lot of reasons why crew have to
bring those luggage with them.*

*Q2 What scary facts do scientists know that the public doesn’t
know about?*

*A2 Silk Road, Dec 8*

*Did you know that there are millions of tiny creatures living on your face
right now?*

*They call them Demodex mites,** and they are microscopic arachnids that
feed on your skin oils and dead cells.*

*They have eight legs, needle-like mouthparts, and no anus. Yes, you heard
me right.*

*They don't poop.** Instead, they store their waste inside their bodies
until they die and explode, releasing their contents onto your skin.*

*Sounds gross, right? Well, it gets worse.*

*These mites are not harmless. They can cause skin problems like rosacea,
acne, and blepharitis (inflammation of the eyelids).*

*They can also transmit bacteria and viruses that can infect your eyes and
cause blindness. And the worst part is, you can't get rid of them.*

*They are part of your normal flora, and they have been living on humans
for millions of years**. You probably inherited them from your parents, and
you will pass them on to your children.*

*So, the next time you look in the mirror, remember that you are not alone.
You have millions of tiny roommates that are eating your face and waiting
to explode.*

* How's that for a scary fact?*

*Q3 Are the wealth and armies described in Ramayana and Mahabharata
exaggerated?*

*A3 Ram Abloh, Hindu, studied Veda (incl. Upanishads), Vedanta,
Gita11h*

*This is my personal opinion**. Others may disagree.*

*All works of poetry do have some exaggeration.** Otherwise, they wouldn’t
evoke any sublime Rasas in us. They would just be a newspaper report.*

*The Rāmāyana and Mahābhārata are both Itihāsas and Kāvyas. Vālmīki is
called the Ādikavi (first poet). Veda Vyāsa is called the Vedakavi (the
poet who also edited the Vedic canon).*

*So, these two great works contain a very wonderful blend of real history
and exquisite poetry**. Hence, it is wise to assume a certain degree of
poetic exaggeration.*

*Wealth and armies are purely material aspects. So,** quantifying them as
extremely large is a poetic licence to create the desired Vibhāvas,
Sthāyibhāvas and Vyabhicāribhāvas to produce the desired Rasānubhava.*

*However, it is also known from history that ancient India was generally a
wealthy and populous region since the earliest times. So, wealth and armies
would generally be in large quantities, as attested by many foreign
travellers.*

*Q4 What are the best doctor jokes you've ever encountered, heard,
or cracked?*

*A4 Steve Savage, Updated Dec 24*

*A man goes to his doctor for a routine checkup.*

*The doctor tells the man to drop his pants and shorts so he can check his
prostate.*

*The doctor inserts his finger in the man’s anus and pronounces that
everything appears to be A-okay.*

*The man asks the doctor if he wouldn’t mind inserting another finger.*

* “Why do you want me to do that?” asks the doctor.*

* “Because I think I’d like a second opinion.” says the man.*

*Q5 Why didn't Lord Krishna marry Sri Radha?*

*A5 Gokul Renjith, Lives in India (1999–present)5h*

*Radha Krishna did marry. The marriage was conducted by Lord Brahma himself
in the presence of all the gods.*

*Description of the marriage from Brahma vaivarta purana -*

*Thereafter Brahma, the lord of the universe, bowed in reverence to
Radhika. He ignited fire in between the two and reciting the name of the
lord, performed homa there. Lord Krsna himself got up from the bed and came
to the fire-altar and performed the homa as desired by Brahma. Thereafter
Brahma made Radha bow in reverence to Krsna. Thereafter, he himself
performing the duty of a father gave away her hand in marriage to Krsna
after making them circle round the fire seven times. Thereafter Radha again
took a round of the god of fire and bowing before him she was seated
besides Krsna. Thereafter Sri Krsna held the hand of Radha in his hand and
seven hymns of the Veda were recited by Hari. Thereafter Brahma placed the
hand of Radha in the hand of Krsna and placed the hand of Krsna on the
shoulders of Radha. Thereafter Radha was made to recite seven hymns of the
Vedas. Thereafter Brahma made Radha to place the garland of Parijata
flowers falling up to the knees, around the neck of lord Krsna, who bowed
in reverence at the same time. Thereafter lord Krsna placed a beautiful
garland of flowers around the neck of Radha. Then Radha was made to sit to
the left of Krsna. Radha was smiling serenely reciting the name of Krsna in
her mind. Brahma then made both of them recite five hymns from the Vedas
and then bowing before them he handed Radha over to Krsna in the same way a
father hands over his daughter. He then stood before the lord. At that
point of time the delightful gods playing on the big-drums and small-drums,
poured a rain of flowers on them. The best of the Gandharvas started
singing and the apsards started dancing.*

*Chapter 15, Krishna Janma Khanda, Brahma vaivarta purana.*

*2. Description of the marriage from Garga Samhita -*

*Then Brahmā rose, ignited the sacred fire, and performed the Vedic
wedding-ceremony of the divine couple. Brahmā performed the
wedding-ceremony of Lord Hari and Śrī Rādhikā. He had Them circumambulate
the sacred fire and bow down before it, and then Brahmā, the knower of the
Vedas, recited the seven mantras. Placing Śrī Rādhikā's hand on Lord Hari's
chest and Lord Hari's hand on Śrī Rādhikā's back, Brahmā recited many
mantras. Then with both hands Śrī Rādhā placed on Lord K**ṛṣṇ**a's neck a
lotus garland filled the the humming of bees. Then with both hands Lord
Hari placed on Śrī Rādhā's neck a similar garland. Then Brahmā had Them bow
down before the sacred fire. Placing the silent divine couple on two
thrones, with folded hands Brahmā recited five mantras. Then, as a father
gives away his daughter, Brahmā gave away Śrī Rādhā. O king, then the
demigods showered flowers, and the demigoddesses danced with the
Vidyādharīs. The Gandharvas, Vidyādharas, Cāra**ṇ**as, and Kinnaras sang
auspicious songs glorifying Lord K**ṛṣṇ**a.*

*Chapter 16, Goloka Khanda, Garga Samhita.*
