Or a realization that it isn't realistic to try to solve "all possible sources 
of error".

That isn't even close to "all possible sources of error".

You would seem to draw the line at "administrative procedures for 
managing/delegating DNS names" (if DNS is to be used).  PHB would appear to 
draw the line _much_ further out.  I'm trying to understand what the scope of 
this discussion is (perhaps only to try to figure out if this is a 
philosophical discussion or actually trying to get something done).
