In most cases it does, but if the points in a line are too many it still leaves more points than I would like. And some remaining points are still very close together because the line segment had some micro-curves that the Bezier lines tries to preserve. In other cases "Conver to curve" doesn't work and does nothing, but I haven't checked the code to see why.
Sometimes I just need a simple "rougher" line without curves so I added this option.
