I would think it would be slightly more appropriate that instead of a true remake, they did the son having to go back and fix something Marty did wrong. Dr Brown could still be Dr Brown because he's probably still hopping around time and would make a good constant (and Kramer's not a bad match) between the iterations.
Not that I would like if they did this, either. But I agree that it seems totally logical based on the direction things are going in Hollywood.
