Hey everyone. Been on a something of a mental Old West kick over the last few weeks. Westerns have always been a favorite of mine, in film, television, and literature. I am not totally absorbed in them like some folks can be (a function, I think, of where I grew up and live -- there wasn't exactly a lot of cowboys in New York nor South Carolina), but I always come back to them.
So I wanted to ask, any other Western fans out there on the Unique Geek? Anyone have any favorite authors, books, films, shows, or comics they want to share? Anyone read/see/enjoy any good Westerns lately? The last really good Western I read is The Lonesome Gods by Louis L'amour. It's set in the time of the Republic of California and is replete with historical details about the Californios and their lives. There's a great sequence where the hero heads off into the desert to avoid capture with little more than the supplies on his back, and has to continually come up with new ways to make mocassins (to avoid burning his feet), to create saliva (so he won't become completely dehydrated), and how to make a few shreds of jerky last. I've also started reading the DC volume Showcase Presents: Bat-Lash, which is fantastic. Bat-Lash is such a contrast to Jonah Hex (and let's face it all comic book cowboys, especailly DC ones, get compared to Hex) but his adventures are still great. Definitely a throwback to an earlier time. Anyone else care to share? -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "The Unique Geek" group.
