I like Larry McMurtry.  The Lonesome Dove series, prequels,
pre-pre-prequels, and postquels are all good.

Also, the Duane series, the Last Picture Show, Duane's Depressed and
Texasville.  I think I didn't read Texasville yet, so I read the first and
last in the trilogy.
