To be honest, there is no full-proof safe alternative, you will always be at risk in all those sites. In addition to Microsoft Essentials (which is awesome), let me also recommend an adblock extension for your browser as most of the time malicious content can be embedded in advert image files on the web site. For Firefox, us Adblock Plus; for Chrome, use AdBlock. Unfortunately, I can't recommend an adblock extension for the other browsers as I don't use them. As far as "Torr" sites, I use the bay one...you know..."argh"..."shiver me tembers"...and whatnot.
