Honestly, I think I saw about 2 commercials for Scott Pilgrim on actual television. I think that had just as much to do with the box office failure of the film as the competition did. Watchmen was everywhere, and it hit big, even if it had a large drop off. I have seen little to no advertising for Scott Pilgrim, and as popular as the book is now it does not have anywhere near the clout of Watchmen.
Regarding Kick-Ass, well, I haven't seen it, and have no intention of seeing it. I was confused by the line about it being beloved by fans -- most of the fans I know who saw it disliked the film.
