That's kind of how I feel about it too. Like, it's a by-the-numbers zombie
story with clunky plot elements like having a toddler saving every one with a
gun every now and again. I like comics and I like zombies, but TWD has always
underwhelmed. It's like, "Ok, you've seen the same ten movies everyone else
has and now you're writing it down and repeating it back to us. Thanks?"

It hit early in the recent zombie revival, so it caught on just ahead of the
trend, and there's always something appealing about a dwindling band of
survivors in a ruined civilization, but there's nothing really "special" about
it.

That said, it's a fun idea for a tv series because it can just keep going and
there will be a chance to explore corners and concepts a 90 minute movie
wouldn't have time to. Looks like decent production (though not super super
tight). It looks fine.

So, I agree with most of what you say, Luke, but I'm confused by it being
"lame" that cable stations can use "profanity?" Are you worried about "the
children?"

I've read the first two trades of The Walking Dead but that's it.
When you have seen as many zombie/zombi/Dead movies, you get harder to
impress. I mean, I understand that TWD is the ne-plus-ultra of zombie
comics, but I'd rather throw Zombi 2 in the DVD player than watch a
series based on it. Nevermind the fact that my wife would never watch
this!

Of course, like I said I only read the first two trades. So I will
try to give this series a chance on either OnDemand or if AMC shows
their shows online.

I guess AMC is like TNT and they are allowed to use profanity, now?
Lame.

The main character, he's a Southerner, right? A Southerner would
never say "Highway 85." He'd say "I-85" or just "85." Saying
"Highway 85" is as bizarre as him saying "The Eight-Five" like they
would in California.
