As a newcomer to the smart phone world, I would say that I'm pretty pleased. Here are my takes on some of his biggest gripes:
Heat production: Not a problem for me. Yes, when it is in my purse, I do notice that surrounding items are warmer than usual, but it is nothing that concerns me. I have never "flinched" when touching it. I also have it in one of those silicone cases. Size: I can carry it in my back pocket, but I wouldn't dare sit down with it there. For those of us who carry purses (or man-bags), it is not a big deal. Battery life: Following your advice, Ed, I have been conscientious to keep the GPS and/or Wi-Fi and/or Blue Tooth turned off unless I am expressedly using them. I am not one of those heavy users as I expect the author is, but I work at a computer so I can just charge it at work if I need to. GPS: Very cool feature which eats up battery life. No doubt. But, knowing this, why wouldn't you have it plugged in when you are in your car? My friends who are iPhone users do this as the norm. I'm still working out some bugs: some applications will not download from the Apps Store for me, but it's nothing that I can't do without. So overall, I'd say so far, so good.
