Alright, so reading your response, you have made a great case for it being a terrible adaption. Which it totally is. I agree wholeheartedly with that sentiment.
Still not seeing how it was a bad movie, given that the film was supposed to be jingoistic and jackbooted. That was the point. Verhoven set out to make a sci-fi war propaganda film, and that was what he made. He's not a subtle director (have you seen Robocop? Or Showgirls for that matter?) but his films are filled with satire. Have you watched the sort of war films which the studios churned out during the war? You're complaining about a thin story in a movie which exists to be a series of setpieces like the films it is mocking? Starship Troopers is a hideous example of how to adapt a book, but we'll have to agree to disagree on its merits as a war movie.
