So, I just came to the realization the other day that, after more than 20
years, I have not purchased a comic book in the past four months. Some of
you may know that back in 2006 I sold my entire collection of over 3000
comic books and cut down, drastically, the number of monthly titles I used
to buy. Most of my comic book purchases have been trade paperbacks. Since
the recent cancellation of Firestorm from the New 52, and a few other
titles, I found that the few titles I had been buying had dwindled down to
just Daredevil. Well, due to time, money and other life obstacles, I had
not been making trips to my local comic book store (it's almost a 40 minute
drive for me from my home). So, because of the four month hiatus to my
local comic book store I had a conversation with them and, also because I
was subscribing to only one title, we both agreed it was time for me to
cancel my subscription there (after being a loyal subscriber there for the
past 16 years) .
I will continue to buy trade paperbacks from time to time; I still have a
list of 'wants' of older stuff and I still want to keep up with The Walking
Dead, Fables, and Invincible. However, I probably will not continue to read
monthly comic books. If I see a title, or titles, I am interested in, I may
use this hiatus to eventually transition completely to digital. Meaning, I
will probably start a subscription service with Comixology for monthly
titles, again, if I see something interesting.
Any of you other readers found yourself cutting down on titles?
