I went through that process a few years ago. My visits to the local comics shop dwindled down to once a month, replaced by trade paperback purchases. After I moved across town I stopped buying monthly titles entirely. I still buy occasional issues digitally, but I don’t subscribe to anything. I’ve been buying series that appeal to me (Saga comes to mind) on Comicxology to be read on my iPad, but other than trade paperbacks I’ve pretty much abandoned monthly titles entirely.
