So maybe their support for W2K is substandard? I would suggest to try another wireless adapter, preferably a PCMCIA adapter. The old ones (contemporary with W2K) are coming for a couple of dollars on auction sites, W2K is their natural habitat and even 802.11b (11MBit) is fully sufficient for normal internet browsing or email. My favourites are the 3com models with xjack where the aerial extension can be pushed back into the housing and that switches wirless off at the same time.
