The 600 and 600E run their memory at PC66 speeds. Some PC100 memory is
compatible.
The 600X runs its memory at PC100, but some PC133 parts will slow down
and work. As Ray wrote, be sure your parts are low density (16 chips per
stick on 256MB parts).

It has been a long time since Crucial sold memory for a 600E or a 600X
They no longer sell memory for the Type 2645, 2646, or the 2642...
Kahlon.com does, but ebay is your likely choice.
The 600E comes in two type numbers, and some (but not all) 600E will
utilize more memory than the listed 288 MB with the 32 MB non
removable. On others, it is a density issue.
The 600X has three type numbers, but they all have 64 MB non removable,
and 576 MB total PC133 low density.
Those modules sell on eBay for $20 to $35 on average... so watch for the
sellers that have free shipping.

I have a 600E and a 600x which both have a pair of 256 MB sticks
in them.
Coming on top of the 64 MB soldered in that makes for a total of
576 MB
although My Computer Properties reports it as 579 MB and change.
Per James Maugham's advice to me on this List many years ago
that's as high
as you can go.
As to where you might buy those sticks I'd be inclined to start
with Crucial
Kahlon.com is another very good vendor for memory with great prices.
I'm a happy customer.
