But, then, you are known as a Whiz, with remarkable guru powers, and many
out here actually pray to you. Of course, you are always right, so you
deserve all the adulation... but someday, as you age, we will catch you with
flaws.

I verified your information on my Thinkpads, and it also seems to work on
eMachines... but nothing else in an eMachine ever works, including the
motherboard and power supply, but also we are still in the middle of
testing Sony, Dell, Compaq, and HP... and the feature does not seem to work
on any of those... but it is more difficult to find their versions in
Windows XP Professional.

Thank you, Bruce, you are still the one we are pointing toward when we bow
toward the east.

Now if you could only make those disks work in the infernal Sony Vaio or
Vailure.

The Meek Shall Inherit the Earth, but Not Yet

And Thanks again, for always having the answers.

Since I am typing this on an X31 that is a clone of a drive that started

Well, holy moley, look at all the years I wasted...

Not true for the Dell or Sony, or as far as I know, the HP versions...
Just
tested the Dell.

Nope, not at all true. The IBM version can be transferred to other
machines. The issue is the IDE drivers. ONLY.

Windows XP detects changes in any aspect of an install of an OEM
version,

and stops the Windows install. You can use a full version of Windows to
get
it going, along with a phone call to Microsoft in Canada.

 Hello Group,

I posted here about a month ago asking if I could physically swap the
hard
drive from a T30 into a T40 without other modifications (BIOS, etc). I
finally got back around to that project and discovered the answer is
"No".
Both
machines are running XPP. The T30 drive is a 160gb Western Digital
Scorpio.
The T40 drive is a Seagate Momentus 80gb.

After swapping the drives I turn on the T40 and get a blue screen that
informs me there was a hardware or software change. Next a screen
appears
that
gives me options to boot into safe mode, safe mode with networking,
safe
mode
with command prompt, boot with last know good configuration, or start
windows normally. No matter what option I select (and I tried them all)
the
blue
screen pops back up then the boot options screen.

Can anyone offer advice as to how to get around this. I need to get the data and programs from the 160gb T30 drive (which is only 40% full) so
it
can
be used in the T40, with everything intact. I don't have the original
XP
CD's
as both machines were bought second-hand, but I do have recovery disks
for
the T30 if that helps. As always your assistance is greatly
appreciated!
