Actually, Robert has it a bit wrong (but we still think he's a good guy). I did 
operating system support (systems programming) at NIU for thirty years or so.  
I also taught a grad course in that subject for twenty-five years starting in 
1982.  After I retired as a sysprog in 1999, I continued teaching until 2007, 
adding assembler and data structures in assembler, all as kind of an adjunct 
instructor.  I did return to graduate math work about twenty years ago, but 
found it very demanding of time (I'd have had to give up too many other 
activities, such as sleeping).

Raybay is correct about retired professorial faculty, but that's not me 
(unfortunately).  Still, I can't complain about retirement benefits so far.
