The hard drive has nothing to do with the logic board.
Just buy a working shell on fleabay and swap out your drives and memory.

My T42 is broken. The logic board is not working any more and needs to be
replaced. They wanted $500 (!) to fix it... This is way too much than I

the logic board stays the same broken logic board. Is there a way to
salvage
certain files on the hard drive?
