Two things here... I always order my ThinkPads with the cheapest hard drive imaginable, and then throw in my own...this applies to "keeper" machines.
The fact that the drive bears a "serviceable used part" sticker doesn't necessarily mean that it's a refurb. It can very well be a pull from a machine returned for a variety of different reasons... None of the "refurbished" ThinkPads that I bought in the Outlet over the last couple of years had any signs of wear whatsoever either. I seriously doubt that Lenovo does any real re-furbishing of any kind. My $0.02 only... The current talk of ex serv and disks reminded me of something I've been meaning to ask the group-- When I've gotten a replacement disk, it always seems to be a refurb unit, owing to the stickers I've seen. I'm nervous using them--if they were sent back because of a problem, what is the chance that the refurbish process *really* works, as opposed to sending out a disk with a problem? Given how cheap disks are, and how valuable the data is, plus the time for any of us to deal with disk disasters, I've gotten new disks the last couple of times a disk needed to be replaced. Does anyone else do this? --STeve Andre' _______________________________________________ Thinkpad mailing list [email protected] http://stderr.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/thinkpad _______________________________________________ Thinkpad mailing list [email protected] http://stderr.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/thinkpad
