Pure water will not necessarily do damage. As Rob says, pull everything. You
might want to take it apart and gently use a hair dryer after a few days to
make sure it is really dry.
HOWEVER.
Since the battery was installed, there was power in the machine, so you may
be out of luck.
Im my experience, the hard drive and memory can survive, the system board
may not.

Since it was off at the time you may be OK. Pull the battery immediately.
Don't plug it in or turn it on. Remove all removable components to open
things up and get some airflow through it. Open the lid. Drain any
obvious water by tipping it however you need to. Use a paper towel or
something to soak up any liquid you can see or get to. Put it in a warm,
dry place and just leave it for a couple days to dry out. You could also
get some desiccant and put in close proximity to aid drying.
The key is to not put electricity through it until it is 100% dry.

Hi all,
Unfortunately I spilled a glass of water into a bag with my laptop, X61T,
which was shut down at the time. Is there anything I can do to minimize
the
damage? I haven't turned it on since then. The laptop was sideways when
it
spilled so water got into the holes on the side, and the water also
reached
the (touch)screen and the keyboard. Any information you can give me would
be
helpful.
Thanks,
Jerr
