There were no precursors to the screen problems, nothing pinkish,
dimming whatsoever.

I think I will retureve it from them and await my return to the US
where EZServe is looking like the warm embrace of a reliable friend!

Any other ideas would be helpful, in the meantime, I like Bruce's
non-invasive fix, I will give it a tray when I get it back.
