I think once it is created it is left in place. It is a 'hidden' and 'system' file though, so it is likely it did not appear in Windows Explorer. Open a DOS command prompt (cmd.exe) and type 'dir /ah C:\' and it should show up. You should see both hiberfil.sys and pagefile.sys in the root directory. And yes, an occasional defrag is a good thing.
