It is odd. It was working yesterday, then earlier today I noticed no sound. 
Shortly after I wrote the email earlier sound started working.

Now it seems to have gone again. At first I thought it was sleep related, as in 
it does work after it is woken from sleep. I had an issue like this on a laptop 
a few years ago.

However, I just did a fresh boot and it doesnt have sound.

Yes it does have a volume control. Not a physical one, but the one in the task 
bar. It is set to about 75%.
