every board I have ever seen has had a bad GPU or bad USB ports. It is an old machine at this point. Better to try to find a guaranteed working machine and transfer your drives. I also have a T40 with a bad system board.  Questions please:

- trustworthy sources?

- how does one ensure he obtains the correct board?  I received
   the wrong display from an ebay vendor, even though I
   provided the model number of the T43 whose screen had
   cracked
