I have a Lenovo ThinkPad W500. My wife borrowed it. When I got it back, it was dead. With the battery installed and the AC power plugged in, no lights lite up. Pressing the On button got nothing. I measured the voltage at the tip of the 20V plug from the power brick. I got nothing. So, I got a new power brick via warranty (it is 2 years old). I plug it in and still no lights lite up. I removed the battery and tried just the AC power. Now I get the AC light to lite. I then tried the old power brick and again the AC light lites. I reinstalled the battery and now both AC and battery lights lite. I am letting the battery charge for a hour or two before I try to turn it on.
I do not understand why my voltmeter got 0 volts from the power brick, yet it now works in the computer. I do not understand why removing and reinstalling the battery now lets the system appear to be OK. --- Fred J.
