There's no way I'd bother running W7 on a machine of that age in lieu of XP
as anything other than a brief exercise.

 

W7 offers nothing (IMHO) when installed on such limited hardware that you
can't get with more stability and reliability in a clean install of XP-Pro
with SP3.

It will run, a little bit sluggish, but  it will work.  I'm not sure how to
categorize W7 vs. XP; on some older machines it seemed rather
worse and on some OK.  But you can live with it, is my guess.
